EcoPlastiC at the TwInn4MicroUp Kick-off meeting
The Kick-off meeting of the TwInn4MicroUp - Twinning Innovation Hub for Microbial Platforms in Plastic Upcycling was organized from 12-13 September 2024 in Athens, Greece. Coordinated by the team from the Industrial Biotechnology and Biocatalysis Group (IndBioCat) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), from Greece this consortium includes Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS) from Ireland, Group for Eco-Biotechnology and Drug Development (EBD) of the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE) from Serbia and the University of Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA) from Italy as partners.

TwInn4MicroUp presents an innovative approach to plastic waste upcycling, employing green bio/mechanical/chemical technologies to recover plastic monomers. Modern molecular techniques will be utilised to create microbial cell factories capable of producing bioactive compounds from these plastic-derived feedstocks, revolutionising industries related to bio-colorants, biotherapeutics, bio-nutraceuticals, biosurfactants and biomaterials.
Since two of the EcoPlastiC partners are also partners in this Horizon Europe TwInn4MicroUp project (TUS and IMGGE), the EcoPlastiC Project Ambassador Jelena Lazic (IMGGE) was invited to present the EcoPlastiC Work Package 6 – Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication, and to enable knowledge transfer to the TwInn4MicroUp consortium members, especially related to the TwInn4MicroUp Work Package 6 – Outreach, Communication and Dissemination.
